Throughout the course of 2010, Pratt has introduced many new components of our brand; a new logo, new tagline and now a new website! These are only the aesthetic pieces of a much more in depth process that Pratt has been through. Based on feedback from internal and external sources we knew there were opportunities for improvement and we are still working diligently to be better, everyday, for our clients.

Wayfinding as a Science, Part 1

Lately, I’ve admittedly become addicted to two things that I wish I’d taken interest in much earlier in my career: reading articles on design theory, and constantly researching RSS and Twitter feeds for those articles on my iPad and iPhone. I’ve always considered getting through a project and hearing “thank you, good job” (or variations thereof) from a client to be the best reward for a designer, which meant the final buy-in occurred. However, when the communication, thought and talent from that design team can be substantiated within our industry and add input from cross-pollinated industries, the effect becomes considerably greater and more meaningful. So with this new addiction in tow, I’ve had the urge to study human reaction to well-designed wayfinding, undoubtedly the cornerstone of work we do at Pratt but also a science that’s worth studying as a designer. Here’s some of the things I found.
